Strasbourg Christmas Market 11-25th Dec, Tokyo International Forum

Get into the Christmas spirit by visiting the very first Strasbourg Christmas Market in Tokyo at the International Forum from the 11th till the 25th of December.  The Strasbourg Christmas Market at 440 years is the oldest Christmas market in France and is an important part of Christmas for people in France.  Originating in Germany, the earliest record of the market is 1384 in Bautzen.  The Christmas market takes place during the run up to Christmas, with many wooden stalls selling tree decorations, mulled wine Glühwein), cakes and biscuits such as Gebrannte Mandeln (candied, toasted almonds), traditional Christmas cookies such as Lebkuchen and Magenbrot (both forms of soft gingerbread), Christstollen (Stollen).  Featured at the first Strasbourg market will be:

  • The Strasbourg Christmas Market, where the tradition of Christmas trees was born, will be taking place at the Tokyo International Forum. Illuminations, a Christmas merry-go-round and wooden chalets will recreate the warm, authentic ambiance of the Strasbourg Christmas Market!

  • The chalets will proudly feature handmade Christmas items, Christmas beer and jam, Alsatian wines imported into Japan for the first time and potteries and textiles from the Strasbourg region.
Market Buffet: enjoy Alsatian specialties!
  • Discover culinary delights unknown in Tokyo, such as the famous “tarte flambée”, an Alsatian specialty; to be washed down with a glass of white wine, or other scrumptious dishes, such as Alsatian Sauerkraut and more!
Experience an authentic Alsatian Christmas.
  • Alsatian craftsmen will come to Japan to promote and share authentic Strasbourg Christmas culture through numerous demonstrations and various workshops.
Christmas events and concerts.
  • To celebrate the first ever Strasbourg Christmas Market in Tokyo, events and concerts will also be organised to create an all-round Christmas ambiance.
